A twist on the summer bucket list.

On the very first day of summer, I thought it would be fitting to think about the good ‘ole summer bucket list. I tend to do these every year but this time, I thought I’d do a twist on my summer bucket list (from last year; and here is the ‘how I did’ post) with my fun date bucket list and see where I stand on both, for the summer already (since summer, to me, officially started back in May hehe).

Drawing from my date bucket list and ideas for my summer bucket list, here’s what I’m thinkin’

  1. Make every weekend (and some weeknights too!) Sunday Funday: Summer means longer days and longer nights, open windows, and energy, energy, energy. Rather than relegate Sunday Funday to ‘just’ one day, or to the weekend, I have been digging making it a weekly occurrence. At least once a week, I vow to make dinner a little extra special, a glass of wine or sparkling water in a wine glass, the patio, and some tunes. Nothing better.
  2. Spend a weekend on the Cape. Another item that was on my summer bucket list last year, but we never went. We are eyeing late July…hopefully we can make it happen this year!! or bust!
  3. Run with *just* a sports bra and shorts on. This one scares me. I know my sis has this on her list too…because we vowed to do this together! And I cannot wait. As scary as it feels, I think it will feel freeing and triumphant! (I also think a run through a sprinkler is warranted…#justsayin)
  4. Read more books. I have several that I am wanting to finish and/or read, but have been reading magazines that are piling up, instead. But there is nothing better than a book by the lake/pool/beach.
  5. Build a sandcastle. At the beach, I always painstakingly avoid getting sandy. So type A and silly. Let’s get sandy, yo!
  6. Watch fireworks. For some reason, I always say I’ll go watch fireworks for the Fourth of July, but never do. But then wish I did. So I must do this, this year!
  7. Take every opportunity possible to go to the beach, lake, or pool. Enough said.
  8. Go to a strip club. Yep, I’m serious. <–This is from my date night list. Done. Yep. Already did this one this summer! (but may need a redo…ahem, sis)
  9. Go to a Red Sox game this summer. This MUST happen. There is nothing more SUMMER than going to a game.
  10. barre n9ne for one…on the dock in Maine. Just me, the lake glistening, and silence. Perfection.
  11. Fly a kite. M looked at me funny when I suggested this. But I think it would be fun. <–this is from my date bucket list – it would TOTALLY be fun to do while picnic-ing, no??
  12. Go on a picnic! Wine, cheese, fruit. Yes, please.  <–Also from my date bucket list – did this one too! but want to do this one as much as possible this summer!
  13. Go to the zoo! Seriously, the zoo in the summer? How fun?
  14. Pick berries. Any and all. Strawberries, blueberries, and (not a berry…) apples!
  15. Catch a concert on the Esplanade. And hopefully on a boat ;-)
  16. Find a field, lay in the grass and watch the stars. *bliss*

I could probably go on for hours with ideas, but I’ll leave it at this list. There is just nothing better than summer, I am convinced. And in part because summer is so short here in New England, comparatively, that while I am trying to simplify, it’s hard not to want to cram as much as possible into every waking moment!

Cheers to summer…and a whole lot of sundrenched days and starlit nights <3

  1. What a great list – I think I’m inspired to make one of my own.

(BTW – I recently figured out what my WordPress login and password is. It wouldn’t let me comment without one.)

  2. This just makes me sooooo freakin’ happy. I LOVE summer. LOVE LOVE LOVE. I’m with you on the sandcastle – hehe, always trying to AVOID sandy issues but really? It could be fun! THAT and jumping around in the waves with Scott, I don’t do it often enough when we go to the beach. I’m determined to do more of it this summer. He turns into a five year old out there, its the cutest thing ever. ALSO want to do the esplanade thing BIG TIME, perhaps on certain fab friends boat, hehe ;-)

PS thanks for the call-out about re: #8. NOT. ;-)

    1. #8 – YES ;-) And we seriously need to conquer the sand thing, I mean really. I almost added ‘allow myself to be buried in the sand’, but I don’t think I could do it! Splashing in waves is a good one!!

  3. I’m stealing this idea. Just sayin’ (P.S. My best friends and I are totally going to catch a Sunday game at Fenway, but we haven’t fully decided when yet. If we do, we’ll drive up Saturday night, but maybe we can get together with you and M. I will keep you posted on the date we decide on.)

  4. Ah, your list makes me smile! I particularly like #3, #11, and #16. Last week, the boy and I laid out on a hammock under the stars at my parents home in CT and it was pure bliss. Summer is such a great time to enhance the traditional date nights.

I too want to plan a weekend to the Cape..so blissful!

  5. Wow I love your bucket list. So many cool activities, I like the idea of Sunday Funday and the picnic. One of the goals I’ve set for myself this year is to just have fun and go with it. Sometimes I just think too much so I’m going to try and enjoy every experience and now write a bucket list.

  6. OK, I laughed out loud when I read the bit about the beach and how you hate getting sandy. Clearly we are cut from the same cloth. I HATE it. I’m a little bit more low key about since the whole surfing thing started but still. Going berry picking is definitely on my summer bucket list. Nothing like fresh fresh berries. Cheers to more everyday fundays!

  7. I love reading by the lake/beach/pool. Whenever we go on vacation, I end up reading like 3-4 books in a week. It’s so nice and relaxing.

  8. Sounds like a great list! Didn’t you come with us to the strip club in Las Vegas?? Always a good time:) I wish I lived closer to go to Boston games. You are right, that has summer written all over it. Andyes, strip down to that sports bra! That is all I live in most nights. I think my neighbors would find it weird if I was fully clothed. haha!

    1. YES! We did hit the strip club in Vegas. What a blast ;-) This was the first time I had gone WITH M. (lol) Was fun, albeit brief for a couple of reasons ;-) And that is SO funny re sports bra and your neighbors finding it weird IF you are fully clothed!! I wish we lived closer too!!

  9. Can I come??! Red Sox game, the cape, all sounds wonderful.
Run with *just* a sports bra and shorts on. – this totally scares me too! I’ll be pulling for ya! I’ve done it once in Florida and you’re so sweaty you don’t think anybody would even care to glance at you.

    1. Sure, come on over ;-) I know, it scares me, but I’ll put on a bikini, so why not this?? Maybe the bouncing from running freaks me out ;-)

  10. Great list! I haven’t seen the fireworks in a few years. I think my daughter would be totally into them now.

I used to run w/ just a sports bra all the time, but I haven’t done so since having babies. :-)

  11. Fenway!! Such fun!

Strip club! Woohoo! (And are you sure you need to do this now after our Friday night in Maine? #justsayin)

I have never worked out in public in just a sports bra but I totally should. Funny how we’re weird about that but not wearing bathing suits!?!?

And I thought yoga on that dock in Maine was pretty perfect. So yeah, a b9 solo class is totally doable. I’d say get out there when the sun is rising. :)

Love this list. I just need a sparkling beverage now after reading! Enjoy the summah!

    1. LOL after Friday night in Maine? Nope, I don’t ;-) LOL! And I have now, been there, done that, several times, and it is a fun story anytime I have ever gone ;-) I totally thought of your yoga on the dock as my inspiration!! SUMMAH!!!!!!!

  12. I can so relate to wanting to soak up every second of summer in New England because we don’t get much warmth up here!! I’m already way bummed that today’s the longest day of the year because that means the days are only gonna get shorter from here on out. All the more reason to cram in more fun! This bucket list sounds great…the b9rre on the dock (so serene), the berry picking, the concert (if you go on a boat, I’ll be so jealous). Oh and I totally used to rollerblade in shorts and a sports bra in my neighborhood when i was like 10 or 11. Oh how things change – I was so not self conscious back then!

    1. I know!! We really do need to just soak up every second, don’t we? It’s such a fleeting season, but I think if it weren’t so fleeting, we probably wouldn’t enjoy it as much, ironically! I agree, we need to live up our less self-conscious days of yore and just go for it ;-)

  13. LOVEEEEEE this list. (Yes, I just went on a reading rampage, can ya tell?) I especially giggled at the strip club bit. Male or female? I actually stumbled upon one on accident when I was about 19 years old. lol After that, we all obviously went several times for birthdays and just for shits and giggles. Well, giggles. No shits. lol

The kids and I and Herrick were in our tent Saturday night and watched the stars from there. It’s an open-top tent (screened of course), and saw my first shooting star of the summer. It was perfect. :D

    1. Strip club – male! I have been to one (in Vegas) that was both though, what a riot! And yes, it’s always for shits and giggles ;-) Shooting star!! I should add to my list, never saw!

  14. I love this list so much! the running in shorts and a sports bra – I’ve never done it! but I was so hot on a run last week that I considered it will be a possibility as the temps continue to rise. we’ll see if I can actually do it – I think it would be very liberating! and a whole hell of a lot cooler. :)
