Determined. To Be…

…a runner, a sister, a lover…living a fit and happy life.

Embracing the current season of my life.

I read Dorry’s blog today and her words spoke to me (again, yet again!) as I struggle (in a good way!) with the words to follow my last post on my engagement (!) to M.

And when I say struggle, I say this because I never quite expected to feel the way I feel once M proposed.

I knew he would.

I knew we would.

And I knew it is what we both wanted.

But what I didn’t know, was how I would react. How I would feel. Besides that elated, happy, can’t-wipe-the-smile-off-my-face feeling, I feel so ready. So so ready. To become a family with M. To be our own unit. To continue our story, wherever it leads us.

And part of that ready feeling? Jump, skipping ahead to the next. To IT.

To marriage.

Yet there is this ‘gap’ between now and marriage that I don’t want to look past. The here and now. The current season of our lives.

As we enjoy the bliss that we are in, embrace the love that continues to grow, and stop and practice gratitude for finding each other at exactly the right time in our lives (thanks for the unintentional nudge Lindsay!), there is so much in-between to enjoy. Individually, and together.

So this is my reminder. To me. To him. To anyone reading.

Embrace the current season of your life. Even if there is something exciting around the corner. And conversely, even if there isn’t. We only get one chance at this life, let’s do it right.

(and thank you THANK YOU for all of your comments, tweets, texts and blog shout-outs. I have not stopping beaming and being blown away by all the love, happiness and support for us!!).

I'm 33. I’m divorced (almost four years later…it no longer defines me, but I hold it proudly as a sign of strength, determination and new beginnings). I’m a runner. A barre (n9ne) instructor/geek/devotee. A sister. A lover (to M…a man I met at just the right time in my journey and is truly the man handpicked for me, the man I’m meant to be with…forever). Join me on my journey, as it unfolds, sharing my thoughts on all things life, from running (a half marathon dabbler and ‘never say never’ attitude towards races), to my experience as an instructor at barre n9ne (my passion and addiction!) and healthy and fit lifestyle of choice, to choosing happiness and keeping perspective on life. This is also my haven to (sometimes) share my experiences in love, and where that journey takes us, 2+ years strong…and anything else that inspires me to push, sweat, and smile.

  1. I love this! Something we all need to work on. Living a bit more in the moment, in the now. Time to stop wishing away the present because the present can be pretty darn awesome. :)

  2. Amanda, agreed! People are always wishing for the weekend because the week is so difficult or what ever. I do this also, but try to enjoy each day. If work wasn’t a challenge and a pain in the a##, they wouldn’t pay us to do it.
What we wish away today, we will miss tomorrow.

    • SO right! If work wasn’t a challenge or a PITA, they wouldn’t pay us, now would they ;-) I love what you say about not wishing away today, because we will miss it tomorrow! so right on.

  3. Enjoy this time in your life – it’s the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Dorry’s post was a great one wasn’t it? And definitely remember to stay in the here and now. Yes you have to plan for the wedding and such, but don’t let that overshadow the moments ;-)

  5. yes yes, amen to that! it goes by so quicky. Enjoying the love that lingers on forever, enjoy it now and forever!

  6. awww… I LOVE THIS!! that ‘being present’ thing is really a good place to be, all the time. Jason and I talk about booking our next trip as soon as we return home from one, because we love the anticipation of our next adventure… but we also “celebrate” the every day… which is really where the good stuff is. :)

  7. LOVE the sentiment behind this post sis — not just the utter joy and LOVE that emanates from this post (yeeee you’re engaaaaaged!) but that you’re taking that time to embrace this time, these special moments vs. rushing ahead to ‘what’s next.’ Enjoy this time sis, every teeny tiny second of it. <3

  8. This is a great reminder to live in the moment.

  9. I love that – embrace the current season of your life. That’s definitely something that I need to work on. I’m constantly looking ahead and sometimes I just need to be in the moment. I particularly remember that feeling when we were engaged – rushing from saying Yes to planning out everything for the wedding (or at least my Mom rushing me). Enjoy this time right now as an engaged couple. It truly is bliss and you all deserve it.

  10. I have been trying to tell myself this the entire engagement. We have done okay at doing so but I have totally thrown it out the window now. I think I’m too close to the wedding and totally fine to skip over all the waiting:) So horrible:)

  11. YES! Each season, each day even, has joy and lessons. I am practicing this mantra too :-)

  12. I absolutely love this! I am still learning to embrace the current seasons of my life as it flows! This is not easy for me, but this past year has taught me so much about embracing the here and now…not looking to the future or worrying about the past. Life is too short not to enjoy everything it is offering in the moment! I am so incredibly happy for you two! I have been married to my best friend for 17 1/2 years now…best decision I ever made. There is nothing better than waking up next to your best friend!

  13. So so happy for you!! And so happy to see that you are remaining ever-so-present with this “season”. Soak it up and enjoy it to the fullest :)

  14. makes me happy that I posted something that inspired you to write such an awesome post! I should read that quote everyday and “practice what I preach”! xo
